Dating Tips for Teens – A Parenting Guide

Many parents experience embarrassment when it comes for their teen's dating for the first time. Either they behave in a very strict manner or they become very lenient and treat the teen like an adult. However, none of the policies are correct in this context. Here is a brief parenting guide with dating tips for teens.

Discuss about dating

Dating is an issue that many parents and teens are not comfortable in discussing together. Hence, the rules and regulations instigated by the parents concerning dating events are sometimes ambiguous in nature. In many cases, teens report that these regulations are too heavy or burdensome. So, if you are a parent, it is really important to discuss with your teens and set all the guidelines and rules governing the dating issue together with your teens before he or she is going for it.

Be introduced

When you receive the opportunity to being introduced for your teen's first dating event, you should be well-mannered and friendly. This is not the perfect time to initiate all the rules and regulations whatsoever. However, only reacting as a friend can influence your teen to comply with your set of rules or guidelines at this time. You can ask few questions to your teen regarding the interest or living style of the dates and ask them to come to your place so that you could be able to known them better.

Car dating

Parents can set limits and guidelines regarding car dating since it is the most intimate form of dating and more risk prone to accidents. Before giving permission to your teen, you should make it sure that the date has driving license and experience for driving for at least one year since many teenage accidents in the U.S are caused due to lack of expertise.

Make distinction between dating and sex

While discussing with your teens about dating and its different components, you should not avoid discussing about sex and to make out its difference from dating. Dating is a particular event which endows the opportunity to know each other. It is not a free entry to one's bedroom. Encourage your teen to reply firmly when it comes about sex or sexual intercourse.

Teach your teen to become assertive

As a parent it is your responsibility to teach your teen how to say 'No' in some situations. World is not always a bead of roses, there are various ups and downs. If your teen does not know how to act with assertiveness, he or she may need to pay higher price for that. You can help your child to learn assertiveness by employing role playing technique. The girl teens must learn where she should ask to stop the boys and boys, on the other hand, must know how to deal with the situation even more openly and rationally when he hears 'No' from a girl. Moreover, it is the duty of the parents to make aware the boy teen that to go beyond implies rape and for that he must need to experience major consequences.

Dating with older individuals

If you find your teen tends to date with older individuals, you should make your best effort to convince your teen not to go further since the mature ones may desire for sexual relationship with the teen in question. This eventually may put your teen at higher risk for experiencing adult condition prior to become an adult. This is not a good option considering his psychological growth and physical development.
